But it concerns me that people who *assume* it’s real see no ethical issues here. For all we know, it could’ve been staged (other viral incidents on planes have been). Nightmare its way, the story was charming and adorably framed. Imagine realizing mid-flight that the people seated behind you on the plane have been tweeting about you and posting pictures of you. It’s unreal how the internet has poisoned our brains & concept of basic privacy so much that u could be 100 tweets deep on something like that & not feel weird about reaction to that apparently beloved viral plane romance tweetstory makes me think my expectations for privacy are wholly out of line with everyone else’s. Here’s an overview:Ĭannot stop thinking about how creepy that viral thread about the couple on the plane is. A lot of Twitter users agreed with her and felt the whole Twitter live-tweeting episode was an infringement on privacy. For instance, when the Today show, tried to catch up with the couple to feature their story, the woman in the tweets (whom only wanted to be identified as Helen) did not wish to comment or be identified. What ensued in the incident’s aftermath was a slew of controversies and complaints. Insane! This was a Twitter firestorm akin to the likes of #DontFlyUnited (keeping to the airplane theme).
